Zakopane is located approximately 100 km from Krakow, near the Slovakian boarder, a journey which takes approximate 2 hours by bus or car (traffic depending). Zakopane itself is a town of approximately 28,000 inhabitants which lies predominantly in a large picturesque valley between the Tatra Mountains and Gubałówka hill.
Zakopane is the highest town in Poland at an elevation of approx 800 to 1000 m above sea level and it is visited by approximately 3 million tourists annually. The town also boasts an international standard ski jumping facility and frequently hosts ski jumping competitions.
